Travel Advisory Issued on JKIA

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued an advisory to all passengers using Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following reports of a high number of travelers departing the country.

In a statement that was published on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, September 8, KAA asked those leaving the country to consider arriving at the airport earlier enough so as to avoid unnecessary delays.

KAA noted that JKIA has seen a surge in the number of passengers departing the country, especially after the conclusion of international summits in Nairobi.

“Following the conclusion of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS2023), we’re seeing a surge in departing passengers, we therefore advise arriving at the airport an hour before your flight to prevent congestion and potential delays,” KAA advised.

The summit was held in Nairobi from 21-22 August 2023, and it was attended by hundreds of delegates from African countries and around the world.

KAA observed that this led to an increase in the number of flights to and from JKIA, which in turn caused congestion at the airport.

“Last night, JKIA was honored to extend a warm Kenyan welcome to even more esteemed leaders for Africa Climate Summit 23.

“It was a privilege to host Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, President Sassou Guesso of the Republic of Congo and Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique,” KPA stated.

Previously, Kenya Airports Authority had announced that it was implementing a number of measures to deal with ensuing challenges.

The interventions included increasing the number of security checks, increasing the number of immigration counters and increasing the number of baggage handling staff.

On its website, KAA has published a guide for passengers who are seeking to travel in and out of the country. In the advisory, KAA has asked passengers to consider booking their flights well in advance.

Passengers are also advised to check the airline’s baggage policy and make sure they know how much luggage they can bring on board.
