Shimoni
Shimoni is best known for its dark history as a slave port. Situated 80 kilometres south of Mombasa, Shimoni is now the main gateway to Wasini Island (which can be seen from the jetty at Shimoni) and the Kisite Marine National Park.
The caves at Shimoni were once used to hold slaves, and are said to extend ten's of kilometres deep into the earth. A visit to the caves make for an interesting yet eerie, and sobering visit. Shimoni also has some old Swahili ruins.
Off the coast from Shimoni is the Pemba Channel - a hot spot for deep sea fishing and scuba diving.
