Takaungu

Aerial view of TakaunguTakaungu is a small coastal village about 50 kilometres north of Mombasa and about 5 kilomteres (along the coastline) south of Kilifi.  The quaint village is situated on the south side of Takaungu Creek, a relatively small, yet stunning creek which reaches inland into a dense mangrove forest.

To reach Takaungu village from Kilifi is a bit less than 20 kilometres by road, as you need to cross the upper reaches of the Creek via a bridge on the main road before turning off the main road east back towards the coast.

A quiet part of of the Kenyan coast, Takaungu has a small, beautiful, yet quiet beach. There are no major resorts in Takaungu, and only a few options for accommodation.

Another historic part of the coast - Takaungu was once a slave trading port.
