Wasini Island

Wasini Island lies a few hundred metres out to sea from Shimoni. It is a small island - only 5 square kilometres, and has no cars.
A walk around the island gives one a taste of traditional swahili life - with locals going about their daily activities such as mending fishing nets, drying fish, weaving mats and maintaing structures. Remnants of coastal forest remain on the island, and old Muslim and Swahili ruins can be seen amongst the foliage.
There are no hotels on Wasini Island - however, a popular seafood resataurant operates on the island, and dhow cruises from Wasini to Kisite National Park can also be taken.
