Watamu Beach Clean Up

A large number of the Watamu community came together to clean up rubbish that had washed ashore on Watamu Beach.

By far the most numerous were school children, who spearheaded the effort.

It was a blustery and rainy morning, but despite the difficult conditions the kids enthusiastically set to the task, and kept filling sacks full of rubbish. In many cases, the rubbish bags were larger than the children filling them.

A sad state of affiars indeed when children are left with an environment in an ever deteriorating state. Huge thanks to the children of Watamu and the good organisations, schools and companies who helped in the clean up. Hopefully examples such as this inspire further clean ups along the the Kenya Coast beaches.

The problem of unsustainable use of non-biodegradable materials continues to degrade the environment we live in, and more efforts such as the beach clean up in Watamu will no doubt help to raise awareness and improve our beaches.
