A call from my friend Rob, skipper at Unreel Fishing Kenya, at 7pm on a Thursday night could only really be for one question, ‘do you want to come fishing tomorrow?’, a buzz of excitement and I was already juggling tomorrow’s schedule. I knew fishing off Watamu (on the North Kenya Coast) had been fantastic recently, and this was a great opportunity to head out Marlin fishing during peak season.

Deepsea Fishing Competition - Hemingways Resort, Watamu

Friends of Kenya 2015

The 2015 Friends of Kenya billfish competition was held over the 3rd and 4th of March. The boat auction took place on the evening of the 2nd March at Hemingways Watamu.

The two day event gives fishermen the option of staying out at sea and fishing overnight, giving the opportunity for broadbill fishing in addition to the typical marlin and sailfish that the teams try to catch during the day.

The 2014 Wildman Watamu Triathlon took place over the 18th and 19th October at Turtle Bay Beach Club.

The kids triathlon was on the Saturday, whilst the adults Sprint and Olympic categories were raced on Sunday morning.

WSFC Fishing Competition - Day 2

Seahorse managed to remain ahead of the fleet overnight in Watamu, having entered day 2 with the most points from 3 Striped Marlin on Day 1. Skipper Peter Ready and the fishermen and crew on board Seahorse caught another Marlin on the final day, and ended with a total points tally of 916.71 to win 1st Overall.

Insteada was hot on their heals with a succesful second day, but fell just short at 916.43 points, a very slim margin which came down to the weigh in of the Dorado caught in addition to the high socring billfish.

WSFC Fishing Competition - Day 1

Following the Auction and Sweepstake at Ocean Sports bar on the evening of the 27th December, the 2013 Watamu Sea Fishing Club Christmas Competition officially got underway at 6.30 on Saturday morning.

The 28 boats that entered this years competition are:
Bingo, Tamu, Clueless, Insteada, Alleycat, Kipapa, Unreel, Simba, Ol Jogi II, Tarka, Seahorse, Pintail. Seyidda, Neptune, Sand Dollar, Tega, Whatever It Takes, Spoit, Eclare, Auspicious, Starehe, Magoo, Shika, Ocean Luhrs, Black Widow, Dignity, and Castle Lager.

Auction Night at Ocean Sports

The 2013 Watamu Christmas Competition auction was held at Ocean Sports, Watamu on the evening of the 28th December.

A great turn out of fishermen, supporters and fishing enthusiasts filled the Ocean Sports bar at a fun family evening.

There are 28 boats in this years competition and each one was auctioned off to the highest bidder in the room.

The Bio-Ken Snake Farm's Seventh International Snakebite Seminar will be held at Turtle Bay Beach Club in Watamu, Kenya on Saturday 6th of November 2010, starting at 9am. The aims of this seminar are:

1.    To update information on snakebite in Africa.
2.    To review recently published WHO guidelines on Antivenom and snakebite management.
3.    To discuss development of new Antivenoms for Africa.
