Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has appointed former Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga’s daughter as an Inspector at the Kenya Bureau Of Standards (KEBS).
Luise Rasanga was appointed via a Gazette Notice dated Friday alongside 49 others after the CS revoked the appointments of the previous inspectors.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 13 (1) of the Standards Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry appoints Jackline Sigio Kirruti, Daisy Mumia, Carolyn Chepwogen, Luise Rasanga…,” the Gazette Notice read in part.
Rasanga was the first Siaya governor and served for two terms. He is a close ally of Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

Luise Rasanga is currently a legal services manager and the standards bureau. Previously, she served as Trust Secretary at the agency and as Principal Legal Officer between 2016 and 2019.
The fifty Inspectors will ensure that goods and services in the country meet the required quality and safety standards.
Quality checks are achieved through the inspection of goods and services at various stages, from production to distribution.
Rasanga and her colleagues will also ascertain the quality of the materials used, the workmanship, and the labelling.
Other tasks include importing goods to ensure that they meet KEBS requirements before they are allowed to enter the country.
The testing is done in KEBS or accredited laboratories across the country, by qualified and certified technicians from various institutions.
Section 13 (1) of the Standards Act also allows the Inspectors to issue certificates of conformity to goods that meet the required standards. These certificates are required for some goods to be imported or exported.
As part of their civic duty, the Inspectors have the responsibility of educating the public about standards and the importance of quality products and services. This is achieved through workshops, seminars, and other outreach activities.
