Siaya Governor James Orengo, on Saturday, led a delegation of close friends and relatives to pay the dowry for his son, Michael.

Michael Orengo was seeking the hand of the love of his life, Samatha Luseno, in marriage.

In the private event held in Vihiga County, Michael was also accompanied by his mother, Betty Murungi, a renowned lawyer and Human Rights activist.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a longtime friend of the Orengo family, was also part of the entourage that blessed Michael as he marked one of his most important milestones.

The bridegroom donned a cream suit and black shirt while his fiance was dressed in an African print dress.

Known as Nyombo in the Luo community, Michael was accompanied by his family and friends for the negotiations over the bride price as dictated by the traditional dowry ceremony

However, the event was a blend of the two cultures, with various themes borrowed to make it successful.

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo, who hosted the visitors, shared photos of the event on his social media accounts.

“I welcomed my brother Orengo James in Vihiga for dowry negotiations between the Orengo and Luseno families. Congratulations to Michael & Samantha for honouring your kin and culture – that which defines our heritage and unites our people,” he stated.

Other notable leaders present at the event were Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei was also present at the event, wishing the duo all the best in the next chapter of their lives.

“The pride of parents is to witness children start families of their own.  May the young couple flourish and flower in the fullness of God’s favour,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Details of the bride price the Orengos paid to their inlaws was yet to be disclosed by the time of publishing this article.
