Former CS James Macharia and CEO Dan Gikonyo Visit Former High School After 4 Decades

Karen Hospital Chief Executive Dan Gikonyo together with former Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia paid a visit to Kagumo High School on Sunday, where they are both alumnus.

The two, who were in the company of Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and former Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, visited their alma mater to join its alumnus network in celebrating its 90th anniversary.

Macharia noted that the trip marked his first time to visit the school after 45 years.

“I left this school exactly 45 years ago and I remember in that year, we had a prize giving day and those memories come to me with nostalgia. We received those prizes and went own to lead the country,” stated the former CS.

Gikonyo, on the other hand, revealed that he joined the institution in 1964 class of form 1 at a time when the school’s entire population was just 300 students. Today, the institution located along Nyeri-Nanyuki Road hosts over 2,000 students.

“In the 1960s, when we were here, it was much colder. I was in the form 1 class of 1964 and those days, I think the whole school had 300 students,” he stated.

Speaking during the celebration, Pastor Dorcas called on the boys to focus on their education and refrain from using drugs for a better tomorrow.

She reiterated her focus on saving the boychild arguing that most male minors had been delegated yet they played a crucial role in the society during their adulthood.

“I must see that there is justice that is served to all creation, and especially my boychild. There is no way a country can neglect a seed carrier and expect to thrive,” she explained.

“Therefore, we must fight for and protect the boychild. We have neglected the boychild far too long and we are paying dearly.”

Gikonyo, one of the most respected cardiologists across the country, founded Karen Hospital with Dr Betty Gikonyo in 2003.

During the former President’s first term, Macharia was first appointed to the Ministry of Health before being reassigned to the Transport docket in 2015.
