Police Launch Manhunt for Murang’a Businessman

Detectives have launched a manhunt for a suspect who managed to escape during a police raid at his business premise in Murang’a County where illicit alcohol was recovered.

The business owned by the man on the run was raided following a tip that the premise was producing illegal brew.

The raid in Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location was conducted by officers from the National Police Service and NACADA on Thursday.

About 320 liters of Ethanol, distilling drums, cartons, and bottle tops, among other items, were recovered during the operation.

Approximately 60 cartons with brand names of local brews were also seized.

The police also managed to recover reels of certified stamps which the suspect used as certification of the authenticity of the illicit alcohol.

“NPS and NGAO Officers nabbed several assorted suspected second generation alcoholic drinks following a raid conducted within Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location,” read the police statement in part.

The raid at the Murang’a based home comes as police sought to uncover those behind the sale of illicit alcohol in the county.

The police also vowed to arrest those involved and charge them in court.

This comes as the government continues to intensify the fight against illicit brews and drugs and substance abuse among the youth in central Kenya.

Mid this year Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asked Chiefs across the country to root out the drug abuse menace among the youth by arresting drug peddlers and the sale of illicit brews.
