Police Officer Fatally Shoots Husband in Eldoret


A female police officer based in Uasin Gishu was arrested on Saturday evening after shooting her husband several times. 

According to a police statement seen by Kenyans.co.kethe tragedy was triggered by a quarrel between the couple. 

The police statement shows that after the quarrel, the police officer left the house to report to duty in her work station which is a stone’s throw away from their home.

“The accused alleged went back to check on her children in their rented house and her husband turned to her with a knife wanting to stab her,” the statement read in part. 

The police officer in self-defence used her work-assigned rifle to shoot the husband repeatedly.

Following the incident, officers rushed to the scene where they established that the man had been shot to death. 

‘One person aged 36, a Keiyo adult was lying on his bed facing downwards on a pool of blood with several bullet wounds,” police said in the statement.

According to the official statement, the crime scene was processed by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Uasin Gishu County. 

Following this, the deceased’s body was transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for preservation awaiting postmortem. 

Police officers responding to the scene recovered an AK47 riffle, 11 cartridges and three bullet heads.

According to Kenyan law, if the officer is found guilty of manslaughter, she will be liable to a maximum of life imprisonment.

“A person acting in self-defence will not be criminally liable if their act causes death, provided their life was in such danger as to warrant the act causing death,” the law states.
