One minor was shot on Tuesday in Ng’aratuko, Baringo County, a few kilometers from the location where Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was holding a security meeting.
The CS was holding the meeting with security chiefs following a spate of bandit attacks in the region when the armed men, believed to be bandits attacked a group of herders and shot the 13-year-old.
The gunmen also shot at candidates sitting for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Ng’aratuko Primary School.
Julius Kiragu, the Baringo County Police Commander told journalists that the government has deployed extra security personnel to the area to beef up security.

It was however not clear why the gunmen staged the attacks.
Police reported that after the gunmen fired the shots they fled into the bush.
Earlier, the bandits were reported to have invaded a nearby village and stole a herd of cattle.
The attack comes days after cattle rustlers attacked a General Service Unit (GSU) camp and Kapindasum Primary School in Baringo.
The incident forced the teachers and students to take cover under their desks until security officers arrived and quelled the situation.
Bandit attacks have increased lately in ASAL areas prompting Kindiki to tour the region with the view to draft strategies on how to end the menace.
On Tuesday, CS Kindiki held a meeting with Rift Valley Regional and Baringo County Security and Intelligence Committees at Loruk, Baringo North Constituency to address the pressing issue.
Kindiki has vowed to ensure that the most affected areas especially Northern Kenya and Lamu are protected.
“Notorious livestock rustlers and bandits have for years terrorised innocent residents and attacked security officers using illegal firearms, especially in Eastern and North Rift. These counties are on the radar of our specialized security agencies,” he stated in September.
At the time, Kindiki issued a shoot-to-kill order on bandits.
