Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Saturday announced the recovery of 417 stolen mobile phones in Nyeri County.
In a statement, the agency also announced that it had arrested a 32-year-old man linked to the theft of the mobile phones.
According to the agency’s statement, the middle-aged man was arrested following an impromptu raid by detectives into the man’s electronics shop where a number of items had been stashed.
The agency further stated that the recovery and arrest came hot in the heels of the interrogation of two men who had earlier been arrested by detectives based in Nyeri while snatching mobile phones from shoppers in Gatitu, Nyeri
During the raid, officers also recovered 2 TV sets, 3 laptops, 2cameras, 47 sim cards, and a printer.

“The Nyeri security command has warned against a surge in pick pocketers who are mostly interested in smartphones, but assures the public that whatever cartels are involved are on police radar and will soon face the full force of the law,” DCI noted in a statement.
According to DCI, the three will spend the weekend under police custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday when they will be charged.
The incident come barely a week after detectives on October 24 raided a number of shops in Eldoret, in an operation that led to recovery of assorted electronic items.
Several electronic repair shops believed to sell stolen items were raided leading to the recovery of the items.
“Electronic repair shops believed to be confiscating stolen items were searched and assorted electronics without prerequisite ownership receipts recovered,” the DCI said in a statement at the time.
