Azimio Senators Pile on CS Machogu Over Exam Cheating in Kisii

A section of Azimio Senators on Saturday faulted Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu claiming the Kisii region has unfairly been targeted as the government continues to clamp down on teachers, principals and exam centre managers found culpable of abetting exam cheating.

The Senators who were speaking at New Dawn SDA Church in West Mugirango Constituency questioned the accuracy of the recent busts holding that it was unlikely that a majority of cheating cases would be identified in 1 region.

Led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, the legislators stated that cheating allegations in the Kisii region were unfounded and affected the students negatively.

“Machogu hails from here and he understands us since he has been brought up in this region. We will be referred to as exam cheats until when?” Omogeni posed.

“He is the Education CS and we expect him to defend Gusii Community. We have done nothing wrong.”

Kilifi Senator and Senate minority leader Stewart Madzayo added that the allegations were painting the region in bad light.

Madzayo explained that parents toiled to take their students to school and struggled to pay school fees and that aspect was being trivialised by the government.

“If students from Kisii have studied well, passed exams and topped the country, please just give them the opportunity to celebrate their victory,” Kitui Senator Enock Wambua added.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch adding his voice to the conversation, stated that President William Ruto’s government was breaking hearts and dreams of young students from the Kisii region.
