Residents, most of them from the Mambo Leo area blocked the main road and lit a borne fire even as they demanded immediate action be taken to curb the menace.

The protests escalated after a middle-aged man was attacked and mugged by unknown people on Friday night while walking along the road.

According to reports, despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim did not survive as he succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital in Kisumu on Saturday morning.

“We were today met by rude shock after realizing that a young man had been killed here yesterday at around 8 pm and similarly a fortnight ago, another young man was shot deal just in the same place,” narrated one of the protestors.

According to the residents, most of them have of late been forced to close their business establishments early over fear of being attacked.

Addressing journalists, Kisumu East OCPD Joseph Obara noted that the government has deployed additional officers to the area to tame the recent trend.

According to the OCPD, investigations have also been launched to bring to book the perpetrators instigating muggings and killings in the area.
