Elon Musk’s X (Formerly Twitter) is Down in a Global Outage

Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has gone down with users across the globe unable to view posts on individual accounts.

The outage was reported minutes after 9:00 am on Thursday, December 21.

Kenyans.co.ke, through research on the Downdetector, a website that highlights social media outages, established that users of the platform owned by Elon Musk reported issues beginning at 8:00 am on Thursday.

The outage was also experienced among users using the app on their mobile phones and those using the website.

The app had the most reported problems at 71 per cent, website was put at 23 per cent. Server connectivity problems were put at 6 per cent.

“@Kenyans hasn’t posted media. Once they do, those posts will show up here,” read a sample of the error message.

However, despite the outage, some of the features of the platform such as spaces were still functioning.

The cause of the global outage is yet to be established.

On the other hand, Musk and representatives from X are yet to address its users regarding the outage and when it will be resolved.

Nonetheless, a section of users reported that the app had returned to normalcy at 9:45 am.

The Thursday outage was the most widespread downtime experienced by the app users this year.

A similar outage was witnessed in July 2022 where users across Africa and Asia were unable to access their accounts for hours.
