Tinet Primary School Parents Protest Poor KCPE Results

Parents from Tinet Primary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County on Monday stormed the institution, and locked the school gates, calling for the sacking of the principal over poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

During the protest, the parents locked the staffroom and headteacher’s office doors.

Airing their disappointment over the results registered, the parents stated that they were not going to allow their children to report back to that school unless the headteacher was fired.

The recently released KCPE results showed that more than 32 candidates from the school had scored between 100 and 190 marks, while 20 others scored less than 250 marks.

The frustrated parents also complained that their concerns were being ignored, as they had not received any feedback from the County Education offices.

People in the area called on relevant officials to avail themselves and control the situation which was escalating.

“Despite attempts to reach Sub-County Director of Education David Kipsaat and Headteacher Judy Sang, all calls went unanswered,” parents complained.

The parents further accused the institution head of secretly selling maize, cows and milk belonging to the school.

The KCPE results which were released by Education CS Machogu on November 23, recorded irregularities after several candidates complained having been awarded marks in subjects they didn’t take.

Other parents held demonstrations outside the KNEC offices, claiming that their children had been awarded lower marks than their usual performances.

Addressing the issue, the Ministry of Education noted that the errors arose from the SMS transmission, assuring parents that the results on the portal were correct.

“I want to assure Kenyans that the KCPE results were credible, the issue arose from transmission,” Machogu assured.
