Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday, January 16, was forced to defend former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi after a long absence from Azimio meetings and events.
Speaking during the Wiper Party National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Kalonzo remarked that Moi still subscribed to Azimio ideals.
He added that all Azimio principals were in harmony and rumours of an imminent split were unfounded.
“I was in a meeting with Gideon Moi today in the morning and he assured me that he is firmly in Azimio,” Kalonzo revealed.

Kalonzo further added that although the KANU party leader never actively participated in any Azimio events, he was always indirectly involved.
“Even during the protests, he was represented by KANU Secretary General George Wainaina,” he remarked.
Gideon Moi was part of Azimio principals who campaigned for Raila Odinga in the 2022 Presidential election.
Immediately after the elections, Gideon Moi took a backseat in all political activities and has rarely been seen in public political meetings, and has instead chosen to attend family and social functions instead.
Rumours of a split within Azimio stemmed from public disagreements over resolutions made by the National Dialogue Committee which was co-chaired by Kalonzo Musyoka.
Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua stated that they would not support recommendations made by Kalonzo’s team.
In an escalation of the disagreements, Kalonzo faulted Martha Karua and other Azimio leaders from Mt Kenya for forming a political outfit named Kamwene.
“This thing means individualism. It’s a terrible political philosophy. I would advise my friends to leave it and we stick together in Azimio,” he stated during a media interview.
Martha Karua in response remarked that Kalonzo was politically afraid of Kamwene.
Kalonzo who has since announced his bid for the presidency in 2027 was further challenged by Wamalwa who is also angling for the presidency.
The former Vice President during the NEC considered the disagreements normal and stated that the unity was solid.
