Mandera Police Officer Found Dead Within Station Compound

A police officer attached to the Mandera Border Police Post was on Wednesday found dead within the station compound.

According to a police report, the officer’s body was discovered by a sergeant conducting routine patrol within the compound flanked by a team of police officers who noticed the lifeless body behind one of the houses.

The sergeant approached the scene to ascertain the identity of the person and established that it was one of their own.

Area County Police Commander, Sub-County Police Commander, Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), and Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) officers from Mandera East visited the scene and cordoned off the area.

They also processed and dusted the crime scene for fingerprint analysis.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the officer sustained a fatal bullet wound through the lower chin from the right side which exited above the left ear.

“The body was lying in a slant position behind the latrine block,” read part of the police report.

Among the items recovered included an AK-47 rifle with 29 rounds of ammunition, one spent cartridge, two full magazines loaded with 30 rounds, and a porch.

The officer’s body was transferred to Mandera Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination. 

Following this, the body will be handed over to the family members for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Investigations will also be conducted to establish if the officer killed himself or was the victim of a murder.
